Staff and pupils delighted as new Years 5/6 classroom opened at Cheshire school

The classroom is for Huxley Church of England Primary School, in Church Lane in Huxley, and was officially opened this week by the Chester Diocesan Academies Trust (CDAT).

A CDAT spokesman said the ‘achievement is not just about bricks and cement’ but ‘represents growth, opportunity, and a shared vision for education that meets the needs of every child’.

“When Huxley joined CDAT, the school had just four pupils,” they said.

“Today, it has grown to 63 children with a waiting list – a remarkable transformation that reflects the strength of community partnerships and the innovative approach that makes Huxley unique.

“The power of flexi-schooling is one of the key drivers behind Huxley’s success is its commitment to flexi-schooling – a model that blends home learning with school-based education.

“This approach offers families flexibility and choice, creating what parents describe as “the perfect balance.”

“For many, flexi-schooling has opened doors to education that traditional models could not, ensuring children thrive both academically and emotionally.

“Flexi-schooling is not just a concept; it’s a lifeline for families who value personalised learning.

“It allows children to benefit from structured teaching while maintaining strong family connections, and it has become a cornerstone of Huxley’s ethos.”

Headteacher Rachel Gourley shared her excitement.

She said: “We are thrilled to see our vision for growth become reality. This classroom means more children can experience the nurturing, family-like environment that makes Huxley so special.”

The pupils – affectionately known as Huxley’s “Mini Governors” – also spoke from the heart during the opening ceremony.

One pupil, Oakley, said: “Huxley feels like a family – a home from home. Flexi-learning gives us the perfect balance.”

Harris added: “I was on the waiting list for 18 months, and now I’m so happy to be here.”

Leo said: “We keep telling Mrs Gourley to build a university next.”

The spokesman added: “Huxley’s journey is a shining example of what can be achieved when schools, families, and trusts work together.

“Representatives from CDAT, Chester Diocese, and the community joined the celebration, reinforcing the shared commitment to providing outstanding education for every child.

“At CDAT, we believe education should be inclusive, innovative, and rooted in community.

“Huxley embodies these values, and we are proud to support its continued growth and success.”
