Bagillt

Bagillt

Nestled in Flintshire, North Wales, Bagillt is a charming village overlooking the Dee Estuary, perfectly positioned between Holywell and Flint. Steeped in history, the village was once part of the medieval Kingdom of Gwynedd.

In the 12th century, Owain Gwynedd and his forces famously retreated to Bryn Dychwelwch – the “Hill of Retreat” – above the village while pursued by Henry II’s army. Within Bagillt’s boundaries lies Castell Hen Blas, a motte-and-bailey castle and the birthplace of Dafydd ap Llywelyn, Prince of Wales, in the 13th century.

Today, visitors can explore Castell Hen Blas and follow the Wales Coast Path, a route rich in industrial heritage and blessed with sweeping views over the estuary. Whether you’re drawn by history, walking trails, or breathtaking scenery, Bagillt offers a unique slice of Welsh heritage
