Chester’s Sealand Road could be home to car dealers Motorpoint, according to plans

Motorpoint is a nearly new and used car dealership with 22 sites around the UK – including nearby Widnes – and has submitted plans for a site at Sealand Road in Chester.

The plans were submitted on Thursday, September 24 and include a service centre, MOT centre, as well as offices, a café and other ancillary services.

A design and access statement included with the application set out the plans.

It said: “The proposal seeks permission for a new Motorpoint car dealership, comprising a vehicle showroom, workshop, and a dedicated valet building, delivered primarily through the refurbishment and adaptation of the existing retained buildings.

“This approach supports sustainable development principles by reducing demolition waste, minimising embodied carbon, and making efficient use of existing built fabric.

“The redevelopment will deliver a modern, customer-focused dealership that meets Motorpoint’s operational requirements while enhancing the commercial character of Sealand Road.

“The scheme introduces a coordinated site layout with improved circulation and clearly defined customer and service areas.

“The proposal aligns with Chester’s wider economic objectives by reactivating an underused brownfield site, generating new employment opportunities, and supporting investment in the local area.

“The dealership will strengthen the commercial offer along Sealand Road, complementing existing retail and automotive uses and contributing to the continued vitality of this established employment corridor.”

According to the statement, the plans are designed to fit around the retail and commercial surroundings of Sealand Road.

It added: “The vision for the redevelopment is to transform a long-established commercial site on Sealand Road into a modern, efficient, and well‑integrated Motorpoint dealership that re-uses and upgrades the existing buildings.

“The scheme aims to deliver a high-quality commercial environment that supports Motorpoint’s operational model, enhances the character of this part of Chester, and brings a previously under‑utilised brownfield site back into productive use.

“The development has been shaped to respond positively to its commercial surroundings, complementing the established mix of retail and automotive uses along Sealand Road.

“By refurbishing retained buildings and introducing coordinated site improvements, the project seeks to create a contemporary, customer-focused destination that contributes to local economic activity and reinforces the role of Sealand Road as a key employment corridor.”

It added that the plans are to refurbish existing buildings and bring them up to modern standards and, it said, ‘bringing an under-utilised commercial site back into productive use and supporting ongoing regeneration within this part of Chester’.
