Colourful ‘THEATRE’ sign planned for Ellesmere Port venue after delay

Plans submitted to Cheshire West and Chester Council’s planning department state that the roof-mounted ‘THEATRE’ sign will be added to the building – subject to planning permission.

The venue originally received planning permission for the signage in 2024, but delays have prompted a re-application with ‘slight’ changes to the design and size of the lettering.

The venue says the sign will “enhance the venue and support place-making in Whitby Park” with the project to be completed by specialist company Neon Workshop.

The 60cm letters, which will be displayed in vivid pinks, blues, yellows and greens, will be mounted to a metal frame which will sit at the top of the purpose-built theatre building.

Theatre Porto (formerly Action Transport Theatre) opened its new venue, which features a 150-seat auditorium, at Whitby Hall in August 2022.

The organisation provides a multitude of workshops and activities for children and young people in the area alongside opportunities to engage with the creative arts and access state-of-the-art performance facilities.
